The Runes as we have them today are an ancient script developed between 500 B.C. and 200 A.D. People of the Germanic languages were the ones who developed and used them. These individuals include the Scandinavians, Germans, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Icelanders, and English.
So what are the Runes? They have their beginning as energy potencies in nature – as forces not yet in motion. Forming the Rune stave brings this energy into material form. The Rune stave or shape is the signature of that power of force or frequency.
There are several Runic scripts, the most used being the Futhark, the first six Runes creating the name. This script consists of twenty-four runic shapes, with the addition today of the blank or Destiny Rune. Another Runic script is the Uthark, created by simply placing the “F” Rune last rather than first. Another Runic system is called “The Viking Runes,” consisting of eighteen Runes.
The Runes, then, act as a divination system connected to your higher self. They act by defining the issues and energies within and surrounding your field. Readings may be done using one or more Runes for quick information or using all Runes for a more detailed reading.
When reading the Runes, you are not looking to the future but to the energies around you and how they are working.
