February, once known as Februarius, gets its name from an old Roman purification festival that occurred on the 15th of the month. Nowadays, it’s known for different celebrations and holidays, including Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, and the many birthdays of American presidents. It is also known to have one of the most popular crystals as its main gemstone. Here are the birthstones for February:
Amethyst has been associated with the month of February for millennia. This beautiful purple crystal has ancient ties to Ayurvedic traditions, the Romans, and many Western European countries. Amethyst is a stone of wisdom, providing centered peace, love, devotion, and peace of mind.
The old Tibetan birthstone for February, Bloodstone has been historically treasured by warriors. Ancient Roman soldiers carried this stone for courage. It was also thought to be a remedy for bleeding and a warding tool against evil spirits.

This stone is thought to be tied to the moon’s energy, making it capable of increasing one’s intuition and boosting their ability to lucid dream. Beginning in the 15th century, Pearl was considered a birthstone for February. A symbol of purity and love, pearls have a soothing energy, helping calm and center its carrier.
Also known as Hyacinth, Red Zircon become the February birthstone in Russia and Italy beginning in the 15th century. This stone helps with peace of mind and prosperity.
