Bloodstone (also called blood jasper or heliotrope) has been a vital stone in the history of human beings for centuries. Mined for over 5,000 years, this stone has been prized as jewelry, cups, insignia, as a talisman, and for its “magical” properties. At one time in history, Bloodstone’s magical properties included invisibility, healing a nosebleed, controlling the weather, and preserving health and youth. 

Bloodstone is known as the hero’s stone, encouraging you to be in the moment. This multi-colored stone helps you recognize the benefit of turmoil prior to renewal. Bloodstone is known to help with courage and encourages you not to be selfish. It helps calm your mind so you can make better decisions.

Historical Folklore

This stone is believed to control the weather and banish evil by the ancients. 

Bloodstone was called the Stone of Babylon by Alexander the Great.

Ancient magicians believed it could make them invisible. 

For a time bloodstone was called “Christ’s Stone” for its blood red flecks.

Geology

Bloodstone can be classified as quartz or a chalcedony but is actually a combination of the two. It is typically green with red spattered patterns. Its most prominent deposits are in India, but many other countries have mined bloodstone as well, including Australia, the United States, Madagascar, and Brazil.

Chakra Association 

This stone is connected to the Base, Sacral, and Higher Heart chakras. It is thought to be able to cleanse and align the lower chakras.

Care

You can place this stone in full moon moonlight to energize. It can also be moved through sage smoke or incense, placed in rice, or buried in the earth overnight.

Astrological Association

Bloodstone is associated with Aries and Pisces. 

Health Folklore

This stone is known for being a blood cleanser and emotional balancer. It is excellent for women to stabilize the drain of the monthly cycle. It also helps men who work around fire and earth energies. Bloodstone is though to bring about dynamic courage.
