Snowflake Obsidian helps you see both the light and dark of a situation, bringing balance into your life. It counteracts self-victimization. This type of obsidian is excellent for grounding and connecting to the Earth. Through mental and spiritual protection, it provides one with a sense of stability.
Historical Folklore
Historically, obsidian has been widely used for jewelry, tools, and weapons in many societies. Snowflake obsidian, however, doesn’t have a smooth sharp edge like standard obsidian when it is broken or shaped, and is more commonly used for meditative purposes.
Geology
Snowflake obsidian is high-silica volcanic glass, formed when lava cools swiftly. The white flecks are cristobalite inclusions. Each obsidian deposit has a slightly different chemical make-up, with different volcanoes putting out lava with different minerals. It is primarily found and mined in the Americas.
Chakra Association
Snowflake obsidian is associated with the base (or root) chakra. It is sometimes associated with the solar plexus chakra.
Care
You can place snowflake obsidian in full moon moonlight to energize. It can also be moved through sage smoke or incense, placed in rice, or buried in the earth overnight.
Astrological Association
Snowflake Obsidian primarily connects with Scorpio, but also resonates with Moon in Gemini.
Health Folklore
Folklore states that this type of obsidian can be used for detoxification, arthritis, and joint pain. It may also aid circulation.
