Historical Folklore

The Ancient Egyptians associated jasper with the menstrual blood of the goddess Isis and believed that it assisted pregnant women and helped with breastfeeding.

In the early days of Christianity, the Bishop of Salamis credited green jasper with the power to drive away evil fantasies.

It is the stone of Archangels Haniel and Sandalphon.

“Picture” Jasper is sometimes used as a blanket term for any Jasper that appears to create a specific image with its pattern. Thus, Picture Jasper comes in a variety of colors.

Geology

Jasper is a Quartz aggregate. The Crystal is made up of tiny Quartz granules and is usually heavily included with different minerals present where the stone was formed. These inclusions are what leads to the numerous different colors and patterns found in the jasper group of stones. They are each unique to the extensive “bedded” deposits in which they are found. Many of these stones are named after the geographical area from which they were discovered. Picture Jasper is unique when compared to other Jaspers due to the detailed “Pictures” almost always be seen in the stone that arise from the stones banding and inclusions.

Chakra Association

Jasper stones can generally align and clear all chakras but resonate differently based on color. Picture Jasper is typically associated with the Root chakra.

Astrological Association

Picture Jasper is sometimes thought to resonate with Capricorn and Leo.

Health Folklore

Picture Jasper is said to be useful for supporting the immune system as well as aiding the processes of the kidneys.

These stones can be gently washed with soap and water if necessary.
