Chemists once used watermelon tourmaline as a light polarizer in experiments.
Geology
The tourmaline family is classified as boron silicate minerals. All stones in this family has a similar crystal structure and chemical makeup but come in a variety of colors. Its ability to contain and connect crystals of multiple colors gives Watermelon Tourmaline its signature pink and green hue. This variety can be found throughout South America and Africa, as well as parts of Asia.
