Septarian is a type of concretion, formed when matter hardens in a cracked pattern around crystals. These cracks are called septaria, which gives this stone its name. The exterior is typically made up of concrete and minerals, while the inside is often a type of calcite. Septarian is found in Madagascar and the United States.
