Geology

Citrine is a variety of quartz. Its color ranges from a nearly clear pale yellow to deep browns. The color itself results from ferric/iron based impurities that are distributed throughout the quartz. Most Natural citrines of this type have a beautiful champagne like color and high transparency. The most abundant variety of citrine is actually amethyst, another variety of quartz who’s color also comes from iron, that has been heated. This can occur from either natural geological processes in the earth or artificially to yield the same results. Natural citrine is a somewhat rare occurrence in nature.
