Arizona Sierra Sandstone

Arizona Sierra Sandstone is found in the Southern Utah – Northern Arizona area. This area is notable for its Red Rocks – a type of sandstone rich in iron oxide, which gives the rock its distinctive color. Working out of Kanab, Utah, Western HIlls – a family-run enterprise – has selected rock from its own property and elsewhere in the area to create these exquisite natural paintings. These natural paintings come in all sizes, and at Crystal Life you can find home size pieces such as coasters, bookends, sculptures, card holders and decorative paintings.

The natural designs found in the Arizona Sierra Sandstone are enhanced by the exquisite cutting techniques that the Western Hills family have developed. The designs evoke the natural beauty of the buttes, ridges and valleys of the red rock area. This area of our country is Love Story in Stoneknown as the Colorado Plateau and is home to the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion, and the Grand Staircase-Escalante.

Arizona Sierra Sandstone and Kanab Goldenstone are found in the same area. The Kanab Goldenstone is in the tan/brown color spectrum while Arizona Sierra Sandstone is in the red/orange terra cotta color spectrum.

Both sandstones are part of the Shinarump Formation, which is part of the more extensive Chinle Formation, and was formed during the Late Triassic period, some 180 million – 220 million years ago. The sandstone was formed by deposition created by wind and water, the colors and designs created by iron oxides. Shinarump is a basalconglomerate.

Metaphysically, working with Arizona Sierra Sandstone – and with Kanab Goldenstone – connects you back through time to earth’s formative stages. The iron oxide gives strength and protection to the flowing adaptability of the sand – e.g., it enables you to flow with a situation while staying strong in your values and personal determination. This is an excellent stone for working with groups, as it softens the combined Sandstone Painting - Approx 1 Poundenergies, helps dissipate discord and anger, and creates flow.

Sandstone always make me think of summer because of the amazing red painted deserts of the southwest.  The Sandstone seems to take on a shimmering appearance when the warm summer sun shines upon it; highlighting the quartz and iron deposits found within it. Because Sandstone is created by either wind or water, it is often called a “stone of creativity”. It strengthens relationships within groups. Use Sandstone to keep you from getting distracted, especially during mediation. When used on the Sacral chakra, Sandstone can help you discern the truth among those around you and to keep your mind clear when making decisions. ~ Jessica
