For a long while it seemed every tree wanting their picture taken had a bear image in it – bear is one of my totems. But now, suddenly, it is Greenmen – there are Greenmen all about wanting their photo taken!
I’ve photographed quite a number of really beautiful Greenmen profiles. Grandfather Buffalo and I were looking at them one day, as they hung on the store wall. “Hmmph,” he said, “It’s a shame they’re all profiles. I want to see one face on.”
Last week I was out walking in a local park. I heard a call and went towards it. “Here’s a photo for Grandfather Buffalo,” they said. “Face on!”
It took me a moment to adjust my eye sight to what the nature spirits wanted me to see – that often happens, and without them coaching me, I would see nothing in the wealth of spirits that surround us all every day. When I did adjust, I discovered this very happy Greenman. “Take my picture,” he said and smiled even harder.
He has a rather rakish air about him, like a Shakespearean common man comic character and so I figure the tree just simply loved its location – right square in front of the local summer Shakespearean theatre stage in our local park! Every summer it gets to shade happy locals who have stopped by for a free play or concert!
