These Small Natural Agate Slices are beautiful examples of this banded gemstone. Each piece has been sliced to show the unique circular patterns of Agate and polished to a glass like shine. They come in a range of neutral to warm, earth tone shades and have not been dyed. They vary in size between 1.5″ to 2″ in length.

Agate Geology

Agates are semi-precious gemstones and are a variegated form of chalcedony a silicate based gemstone. There are thousands of types of agate found worldwide. They typically form inside pockets created within volcanic rocks that have filled with silica rich fluid from the volcanic area. As the silica precipitates out of the solution it coats the cavity in thin layers of of stone. Each time this process repeats a new layer is added upon the last creating the distinct lace like patterns found in many agates.
