Grandfather Buffalo – The Medicine Wheel

skywheelWhen many people think of the Medicine Wheel, they automatically think Native American Medicine Wheel. However, all cultures have a similar concept, whether it is called a wheel (many cultures had no concept of the wheel), a circle, or a ring of power. It may be called Stone Henge, or some other name.

This configuration is identified as a place of power. The term “Medicine” is defined as power, not power over something, but as in a place containing natural and/or primal earth energies. The Medicine Wheel, then, is a place where, through prayer, ritual, and ceremony, you can connect with these energies for guidance, direction, and strength. This process brings you into relationship with nature.

The magician works with these circles by casting them around him/herself or around objects for protection or other intents. These circles may then be used to have relationships with the energies or to have power over them in some way. The person using the wheel/circle determines how they are used.

Let us look at your energy field. It may be defined as a circle, oval, or egg shaped field around you. Most commonly it will be discussed as concentric circles which surround the physical body. Each circle is related to the chakra points, and will pull in those specific energies necessary for the functioning of the physical body. It is necessary for each one of us to maintain this medicine wheel which surrounds us. This maintenance requires that we have an understanding of it.

You need to understand the chakra system and how it operates. The cleaning, clearing, and repairing of your chakras enables you to connect with the inside world (your inner physical body, and the nourishment of it for health and balance). This would also necessitate the checking of the outer circles of your auric field. You are looking at it’s color. Is it bright or dingy? Are there rips or openings in it? Is it damaged in any way? What do you need to do to repair it? Not everyone can see the aura or the chakras to determine their health, and that is where certain tools come into play.

A friend had a Medicine Wheel on her property, and after a time certain things began to happen. Trees began to die, and blocked or stagnant energies began to accumulate in certain areas around the wheel. An examination of the wheel showed that it was in disrepair. Stones as well as spokes were out of alignment. The wheel was dysfunctional, and needed repair. Your energy field is the same way. It may fall into disrepair if neglected.

Here is a reminder of some tools that can assist you in clearing your energy:

If you already know how to use a pendulum, you can use it to check the chakras and other areas of the body. You can also use color and sound to clear and align your energy. You can also use stones, surrounding the affected area with your intent and with the stone’s energetic properties and color. This will imprint the correct vibration into the area, clearing and repairing it. The sound aspect comes with toning the musical note associated with each chakra. You can also use tingshas, chimes, various sound instruments, and related CD’s, for the purpose of clearing and aligning the affected areas.

Here is a list of stones that help maintain the chakras and the aura:

Malachite – clears and activates the chakras

Amber – aligns the chakras

Kyanite – clears and aligns the chakras

Apatite – balances

Calcite – cleanses

Herkimer Diamond – clears

Ametrine – cleanses and clears

ISIC – The Benefits of Massage

Masseuse Massaging Young Man Lying on Table Closed Eyes

Massage is believed to be one of the oldest forms of medical care. In 2700BC, the Chinese described it as an essential healing and disease prevention modality. Hippocrates insisted that an effective doctor is one who is able to administer massage.

In my 27+ years as a massage therapist, I have seen many positive post-massage results. Clients who have had chronic headaches for several years get off the table headache-free. Chronic stiffness, spasm and/or range of motion pain are eliminated in 1-3 sessions.  A 45 year old client carried twins full term with no edema or restrictions throughout, and the only thing she did differently from her peers was receive a monthly massage! Even a simple 10-minute chair massage leaves clients refreshed, energized and better able to focus.

Studies found that a weekly 25-minute hand or foot massage, over the course of eight weeks, was very effective therapy following the loss of a loved one. It allowed participants to better focus their thoughts and come to terms with their loss, while improving their energy levels. And other studies found that those who are massaged regularly have more white blood cells.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Los Angeles found that a single massage session results in significant positive biological changes; decreased cortisol levels, increased white blood cell levels and increased levels of oxytocin.

I have seen my work have profound effects in decreasing pain, relieving migraine pain, reducing anxiety and stress, improving range of motion, reducing muscles soreness, relieving back pain, easing pain and stress, promoting tissue regeneration, easing withdrawal symptoms, treating cancer-related fatigue, increasing focus, energy and balance, decreasing carpal tunnel syndrome and normalizing the circulatory, muscular and nervous systems.

If you’d like to explore alternative health maintenance, consider making monthly massage therapy an integral part of your life.

This week’s blog was written by our Thursday, January 10 ISIC presenter, Rosa Casas. Rosa is a gifted massage therapist who has been practicing for over twenty-seven years. For more information on Rosa and her services, you can visit her website.

Thursday’s event is part of ISIC’s practitioner share events. Once a month holistic practitioners gather in Geneva, IL to share information; the event is free to all professional practitioners. For more information, visit the ISIC Facebook page and the Crystal Life Events Page.

ISIC – Consciousness Studies Grid

Embarking upon the spiritual journey is an exciting adventure. The quest for consciousness can sometimes also be a lot to take in. This grid is designed to ease stress and to optimize your capacity to absorb the many truths that surface while “on the path”. It offers an opportunity to relax and assimilate, perhaps in a meditation or while reading.

The stones are laid in the formation of a Merkabah within a Merkabah. This creates a solid, and balanced energy flow. Placed around the stones is a Slim Spurling Ring, in order to keep the space clear and energized.

The Aragonite serves as a base for the upward pointing triangle of the outer Merkabah. It encourages discipline and concentration while helping you to ground and center. At the point of this triangle stands Lapis Lazuli. This is one of the great Third Eye Chakra stones. It releases stress from your field which allows you to obtain a sense of serenity. This combined with its quality to bring objectivity and deep self-knowledge is the key to spiritual attainment. The downward facing triangle of the outer Merkabah is composed of Copper and Quartz. Copper stimulates initiative and philosophical energy. As well as Clear Quartz, Copper is exceptionally conducive of present energies and amplifies them. In this arrangement, the Quartz Points filter out distractions and unblock any energies that may need to be moved.

The inner Merkabah is simply made of Magnesite, which brings a deep peace in meditation, harmonizes the hemispheres of the brain, and calms stress.

The final addition to this grid is a Clear Quartz, four-sided pyramid. Pyramids are used to enhance and focus energy. Here, it is being utilized to send the energies of the layout up into the seat of the user.

All of these pieces create a peaceful atmosphere where it is more easily possible not only to push our self-imposed limits, but to be able to go far beyond them.

Staff Speak-Root Chakra

Located at the tip of the tail bone, the root chakra is about survival, stability, and security. When the root chakra is functioning properly, one feels vibrant, secure and courageous.   If you have been told, “you need to be more grounded,” the first chakra you would look at and work with is your root chakra.  There are many stones that assist with opening, balancing, and clearing the root chakra.  The key is to find which stone works for you on an individual basis.

Black tourmaline helps to clear the root chakra of old energetic and emotional debris, clearing the way for new energy to flow through.

Banded Agate assists one in feeling secure and assists in releasing repressed emotions.

Boji stones come in a male/female pair, helping to balance the body.  They gently but firmly grounds the spiritual body into the physical body.

Dalmatian Jasper is another option when working with the root chakra.  It can help to open the base and earth chakras while grounding and centering the body.

Aragonite assists in stabilizing and centering within the physical body.  It is a very calming stone.

Specularite which can also be known as specular hematite helps one manifest their unique spirit on earth.

Cosmic Portal Crystals, Chakras & Clearing

Quartz crystals are excellent for clearing up and balancing your energy field, including your chakras and meridians. Quartz can be seen, at the molecular level, as a tetrahedron and so, as such, is excellent for balancing and aligning energy back to a zero point center from which you can go out in any direction.

We practiced working with quartz at last Saturday morning’s workshop. Each person first used the chakra points in each palm to clear the piece of tumbled quartz they chose to work with. Then we went practiced internally connecting to and communicating with the energy of the quartz, in whatever way each person felt called to do. Some reported seeing colors, others had a conversation with the quartz, still others felt their energy shift and balance; none of the ways was wrong or right, it just was. This is something you need to accept when learning to communicate with crystals: they will learn to advance in the role of assistant by first discovering how you can connect to their world, and then they will expand on this way and go on further.

I explained that when practicing meditation, people usually sit straight, and the energy descends (or ascends) through the central channel (also called the sushumna and the haric line), and you need to clear the chakras to let the energy flow smoothly up and down. Crystal workers, similar to people doing shamanistic journeying, usually work lying down. In this way their whole body is connected to heaven above and earth below, they are protected by these frequencies, and they then can look at each chakra as a line of light energy going up and down, and work with any one at any one time.

When first starting this work, you can take one crystal and lay it on a chakra point – we worked with the third eye first – the chakra for wisdom – and did it sitting up, for lack of space – and focused on absorbing into the balanced crystal energy, which helps you to clarify and align that chakra. We discussed what we experienced, cleared the crystal between our palms, then repeated it with the solar plexus – the place of self worth – I explained they should try this again lying down when they got home – and we discussed how that energy felt. They discussed the differences between the two energies.

If you try this, and enjoy it, the next step is to acquire seven crystals, one for each chakra, and use them first one at a time (same crystal on same chakra is the goal, it’s ok, though, if you get them mixed up), and then some sessions later all together. In between uses, let the crystals rest overnight on a bed of sea salt to clear them (flushing the sea salt down the drain after you remove the crystals), or clear them some other way. Especially if they have been working hard to assist you to center yourself, they need to be cleared.

Staff Speak – Kristen’s Reiki Experience

Ever wonder what a reiki treatment can feel like? Staff member Kristen Putzer attended a local open house and had her first reiki experience. She reports back.
I was invited to participate in an open house featuring energy workers. Though optimistic, I was massively apprehensive—I just don’t like trying new things. I walked into the house and was instantly greeted by friendly faces. There were people eating colorful vegan salads, a woman was receiving a chair massage and a curious dog circled around everyone’s feet. I signed up for a few sessions: a chair massage, an angel card reading and Reiki.
It was my turn to go into the Reiki room. It was cool, serene, a lovely set of walls washed over with a clean ocean blue. Gentle music circled around with the highs and lows of the tribal flutes and melodic chanting. I chatted for a bit with the Reiki Teacher and laid down on the table. I was nervous. I took a few relaxing breaths and closed my eyes drifting off to a peaceful holding place between the earth and the sky.
Hands touched my head. They were warm, almost hot. I could feel a spiral rotating in my head like a corkscrew composed of calm light. The hands moved over my third eye. My skin twitched, I could feel it in my eyelids. It felt like thick, sticky taffy was being pulled out of my head. It reminded me of melted tar between asphalt cracks, the kind that gets stuck to your shoe on a July day. This “taffy” was being pulled from my head by the handful. I began to feel like my mind was lighter, crisper. Hands were placed on an area I frequently have pains in, right between my left temple and my forehead. The pain melted away.
The hands moved across the other chakras, paying special attention to both the Solar Plexus and Sacral. These areas buzzed and rearranged. It felt as though they had been reunited with missing pieces. By the time the hands reached my feet, I felt refreshed. The energetic river in my body had been cleansed. It had only been twenty minutes, but it was encouraging. I had no idea what to expect when I stepped into that room. It was a beautiful experience.

Cosmic Portal – Getting Back to Your Roots

red jasper malaA home needs a good foundation to withstand storms and all that Mother Nature brings to us; our bodies are the same way.

We require good, solid foundations to carry us through life, and sometimes we need a bit of help when we are experiencing shifts in our life, or the world around us.

Your root chakra is a stabilizer that supports all energy that springs upward. It provides focus, discipline and a sturdy base. It’s a reminder of who we really are and prevents us from scattering our energies by bringing validation to our existence.

The root chakra is location of life and survival – food, air water, shelter – the basics of life.   It is your core; it defines the core of you.  In Sanskrit, the name is Muladhara, which literally means root.

The reason that yogis traditionally sit in the familiar cross-legged position is so that the root chakra touches the earth as they meditate – not figuratively or symbolically, but actually physically touching the ground.

The root chakra is about survival. People who have open root chakras love their lives – love their physical incarnation in their present bodies.  People who pine away for heaven, future happiness, moksha; people who wish they were somewhere else (be it physically or in some allegorical way) have a root chakra malfunction.  So do people who are angry, fearful, cynical, distrustful, frustrated, envious, jealous, stingy – the list goes on.

The ultimate root chakra success is empowerment and love of life. Various common daily exercises help our root chakra to stay healthy, such as jumping up and down, kicking, jogging, stamping your feet, resting, eating (don’t overdo it!), and sleeping.

Being in nature is extremely helpful. Working with soil helps your root chakra, as does viewing sunrises and sunsets, walking in nature, generally being outside.

Scents can also support your root chakra; specifically cedar and clove.

Yoga postures that support the root chakra are Apanasana (knee to chest), Setu Bhandasana (bridge pose), Shalabhasana (half locust and full locust) and Janus Sirsasana (head to knee pose).

Stones and crystals can help support your root chakra, too, and you can find tumbled stones, specimens and jewelry on at crystal-life.com in all these areas – just type in the name in our search bar: agate, bloodstone, carnelian, garnet, hematite, red jasper, obsidian, black onyx, red coral, rhodonite, ruby, smokey quartz, black tourmaline, & clear quartz. These stones all have attributes that assist you in staying grounded in your “root.”

The benefits of having a healthy root chakra radiate through every aspect of your life. Belief in oneself, feeling safe, assurance that your choices are right for you, and having a belief that all will work as needed. A healthy root chakra enables you to successfully maneuver through your world.
