Prayers for Peace and Protection

Prayers are very powerful tools. Here are prayers for protection from many spiritual and religious traditions. You can chant one of these prayers while using your gemstone prayer beads – one way is to chant one line of a poem per bead, or break the prayer up into phrases and chant one phrase per bead. You can then wear the beads to keep that protective energy around you. You can also combine the prayers with specific gemstones either specimens or pendants or with sacred geometry images for more protection; in this case you would infuse the object with the energy of the prayer (by holding it between your palms and sincerely chanting the prayer), and then carry or wear the object so that its energy surrounds your own. When you want to change the prayer, cleanse the object by passing it through incense and then place the new prayer inside the object.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love,
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is despair, hope,
Where there is darkness, light,
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much
seek to be consoled as to console,
not so much to be understood as to understand,
not so much to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
it is in dying that we awake to eternal life.
        - St. Francis of Assissi

May I become at all times, both now and forever
A protector for those without protection
A guide for those who have lost their way
A ship for those with oceans to cross
A bridge for those with rivers to cross
A sanctuary for those in danger
A lamp for those without light
A place of refuge for those who lack shelter
And a servant to all in need.
        - Dalai Lama (Buddhist)

The light of God surrounds me;
The love of God enfolds me;
The power of God protects me;
The presence of God watches over me;
Where ever I am God is.
                         – James Dillet Freeman

Great Spirit, Great Spirit, my Grandfather, all over the Earth the faces of living things are all alike. With tenderness have these come up out of the ground. Look upon these faces of children without number and with children in their arms that they may face the winds and walk the good road to the day of quiet.
                 – Black Elk (1863-1950)

O Lord, grant that this night we may sleep in peace. And that in the morning our awakening may also be in peace. May our daytime be cloaked in your peace. Protect us and inspire us to think and act only out of love. Keep far from us all evil; may our paths be free from all obstacles from when we go out until we return home.
                - Jewish

Dear God, be good to me;
The sea is so wide,
And my boat is so small.
        - Breton Fisherman’s Prayer

May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses. May those frightened cease to be afraid, and may those bound be free. May the powerless find power, and may people think of befriending one another. May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wilderness–the children, the aged, the unprotected–be guarded by beneficent celestials, and may they swiftly attain enlightenment.
                – The Buddha

Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity. Be fair in thy judgment, and guarded in thy speech. Be a lamp unto those who walk in darkness, and a home to the stranger. Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring. Be a breath of life to the body of humankind, a dew to the soil of the human heart, and a fruit upon the tree of humility.
                – Bahá’u'lláh (Baha’i)

Our Father
Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation but
Deliver us from evil.
Amen.
                            – Jesus Christ

We pray to God to eradicate all the misery in the world: that understanding triumph over ignorance, that generosity triumphs over indifference, that trust triumphs over contempt, and that truth triumphs over falsehood.
                       -  Zoroastrian

God, make me brave for life: oh, braver than this.
Let me straighten after pain, as a tree straightens
after the rain, shining and lovely again.
God, make me brave for life; much braver than this.
As the blown grass lifts, let me rise from sorrow
with quiet eyes, knowing Thy way is wise.
God, make me brave, life brings such blinding
   things.
Help me to keep my sight; help me to see aright
that out of dark comes light.
                   - Author Unknown

May all be filled with joy and peace.
May all beings everywhere,
The strong and the weak,
The great and the small,
The meek and the powerful,
The short and the long,
The subtle and the gross:

May all beings everywhere,
Both seen and unseen,
Dwelling far off or nearby,
Being, or waiting to become:
May all be filled with lasting joy.

Let no one deceive another,
Let no one anywhere despise another,
Let no one out of anger or resentment
Wish suffering to anyone at all.

Just as a mother with her own life
Protects her child, her only child, from hurt,
So within yourself let grow
A boundless love for all creatures.

Let your love flow out through the whole universe
To its full height, depth, and broad extent,
Then, as you stand or walk, sit or lie down,
As long as you are awake,
Strive for this with a one-pointed mind.
Your life will bring heaven to earth.
                          -  Buddhist

Oh God! You are the giver of life, the remover of pain and sorrow, the bestower of happiness. Oh creator of the universe, may we receive your supreme darkness-destroying light. May you guide our intellect in the right direction.
               – The Gayatri Mantra

Steer the ship of my life, good Lord, to your quiet harbor, where I can be safe from the storms of fear and conflict. Show me the course I should take. Renew in me the gift of discernment, so that I can always see the right direction in which I should go. And give me the strength and the courage to choose the right course, even when the sea is rough and the waves are high, knowing that through enduring hardship and danger in your name we shall find comfort and peace.
              – Basil of Caesarea (c. 329-379)

Kwan Yin of the gentle hands, with arms held wide in benediction: come between my enemies and me and join us together in peace.
                      – Ceisiwr Serith

Thank you, O mighty ones, for all you have done for me. May I not forget you, though the world turn against me. Though I fall with my enemies rejoicing about me, it will be your presence that will comfort me, and I will still thank you for the incomparable rightness of every moment.
               – Ceisiwr Serith

I am one with Mother Earth,
I am strong.
The fertile soil is Her skin.
The hard rock is Her bone.
The sea is Her womb.
Of all these things I am.
                – kfrindik

Oh that You would bless me, indeed, and enlarge my territory and that Your hand would be with me and that You would keep me from harm, that I may not cause pain.
 - Prayer of Jabeez

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff–they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.
                – Psalms 23: 1-6

Goddess of the hearth, beat strong and pure in the heart of my home.
Lord of the threshold, keep vigilant guard over the entrance to my home.
Spirits of the land, keep watch throughout the yard of my home.
God of the borders, stand ready to repulse all disorder from my home.
                                                                                        – Ceisiwr Serith

I take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha
until I attain Enlightenment by merit accumulations from practicing generosity and the other perfections.  May I attain Enlightenment, for the benefit of all sentient beings.
                 -  Buddhist

O God of Mercy, we beg You now to protect in a special way those who are fighting for us and for the country we love. Bless them and take care of them. If they are tired, give them strength. If they are wounded and suffering, give them comfort. If they are lonely, touch them with Your gentle hand and let them know that You are near them. Grant them strength, wisdom and help through Your power and Your limitless love. Amen.
