Analyzing topographical formations is one of the basic core concepts of Feng Shui, derived from the Form School. There are many practical applications of this formula. Use this application to help you choose the best position and location in any room you may use to sit, eat, sleep or work.
Use it to establish good and positive interactions where you have meetings as well as social gatherings.

There are four different types of topographical formations which are symbolized by four animals; the Green Dragon, the White Tiger, the Black Tortoise and the Red Phoenix. See my previous blog for the description, location and element of each animal. There are also some examples of applications described in my previous blog for land, dwelling, building as well as an office.

In this blog I wanted to share a more practical application of this formula, one that can be applied daily.

One of the great practical applications for this formula is during your daily family meal. A good family sitting arrangement is very important in maintaining positive and harmonious family relationships.

The traditions, the culture, the learning, and interactions all start when the family is seated for a meal. Whenever this happens take a good look at the family dynamics, and how family members interact with each other. If you are ready to try some good old Feng Shui wisdom, follow this arrangement:

Traditionally, (1) the husband or breadwinner sits at the head of the table. (2) The wife or partner should sit to the right of the breadwinner. This arrangement indicates a very supportive relationship between the partners. (3) The oldest son should be to the husband’s, or breadwinner’s left side. (4) the daughter should sit next to the wife, or partner. If there are more siblings, the boys sit next to each other and so do the girls.

The second head of the table, remains empty unless you have guests over. For example, when the in-laws come for a visit, the father in-law can sit opposite to the breadwinner and his wife to the right of him.

Translating this seating arrangement to this core concept of animal symbolism, looks as follows:

The breadwinner or husband symbolizes the Black Tortoise (1) location, it is the support of the family. The wife or supportive partner symbolizes the White Tiger’s (2) location, it is the right arm of the partnership. The oldest son symbolizes the Green Dragon (3) location, the future of the family. The second head of the table, opposite to the husband, symbolizes the Red Phoenix location, the expansive view.

This concept is also useful at work, and especially during a meeting. Sit to the right of your boss rather than across or to the left of him. You will notice an ease in the flow of the meeting.

I hope this blog inspires you to experiment with your sitting arrangements. Use it at an important meeting, at the dinner table, or during a holiday meal. Observe the subtle impact this arrangement will have in your daily life. Some may notice a better energy flow right away, as others may over a longer period of time.
