Grandfather Buffalo – Sovereignty – The Celtic Earth Mother

Sovereignty is defined as the quality or condition of being sovereign. Supreme power as in government, land as possessed or claimed by a state or community. A Monarch, King, Queen or other supreme ruler, the Celts perceive sovereignty as being the Earth Mother. Tom Cowan, a shamanic practitioner specializing in Celtic visionary and healing techniques, defines the Celtic tradition in the form of the Celtic Spirit (medicine wheel). This wheel embraces the whole of Ireland dividing it into four sections.

North: Ulster – Battle – Horse

East: Leinster – Prosperity – Cow

South: Munster – Music – Wren

West: Connacht – Learning – Salmon/Crane

Center: Meath – Kingship – Deer

Each of these areas are accessed through drumming and journeying (with the pertinent questions or needs). One finds that in doing this Medicine Wheel they identify with the feminine in nature. As one experiences the journey one is birthed into new life and clarity.
