Staff Speak – Family Meditation

Have you ever thought of introducing meditation to your children?  Children are natural meditators and have an easier time at it than adults  They are able to meditate amongst noise and, if distracted, can get back into it. When given the instruction, time, and space, their expansive imaginations take off, painting vivid imagery, hearing sounds, and getting in touch with their feelings.  Meditating as a family can increase harmony, decrease stress, and strengthen the family bond.

Children as young as five years old can be introduced to meditation and are able to practice meditation on a daily basis. Gently encourage children of any age to meditate, by talking about it, by making it a special time during the day, and by making it fun. For younger children, there are books about meditation that can be read at story time. Peaceful Piggy Meditation by Kerry Lea MacLean is one such book. With older children, talk openly about your meditation experiences and how they make you feel, etc.  Invite your child or children to meditate with you.  A good time for this would be before bedtime, making it part of the routine, or in the morning before heading out the door. Set aside not more than 20 minutes, taking ten minutes for the actual meditation and leaving ten minutes for discussion or time to draw or write about their experiences.

When introducing meditation to your children, it is important to have it defined  for you.  Encourage your children to explore and come up with their own definition for themselves and then share yours, being careful to keep the concept open. Explain that there are many ways to meditate and many positions you can mediate from: sitting, lying down, back against the wall, etc. The bottom line is to be comfortable. Allow for exploration of  the different positions as what works best for one person may not work for the others.  Another key factor, especially for younger children, is to allow for them to quietly move about during meditation time.  Children respond well to guided meditation that allow them to experience the meditation with their senses whether that is sight, sound, feelings, knowing, or touching.  A useful book that has meditations geared toward children but very useful for adults too is Sensation Meditation for Children by Sarah Wood Vallely.

You may also make up your own guided meditations.  Creating special meditations that include the interests of the family members makes it interesting and fun.  If the children in the family are older, take turns guiding the meditations so that everyone gets a chance to experience the time from different perspectives.  This will keep everyone involved in the group process.

Best wishes for your family practice!

Staff Speak – Heart Chakra

Love, compassion, forgiveness are all qualities found in the heart chakra. Located in the center of the chest, this chakra connects the lower physical chakras with the upper spiritual chakras.  In a balanced chakra system, the heart chakra accepts the purely spiritual information of the upper chakras and translates it into the language of the lower three chakras.  This translation is also true from the lower chakras to the upper chakras.  Given this important role, it is vital to have a healthy, balanced, and clear heart chakra.

We are taught that it is important to love and forgive others since childhood, and that is true.  However, it is most necessary to love all parts of one’s self to truly be able to love another. From that place of love for the self, the love is then able to spread to others.  The following is a list of stones to help with self love, forgiveness, and compassion:

Rose quartz is a stone that can help in all the different areas of the heart chakra.  Wear a rose pendant right over your heart charka to help balance and clear it.

Rhodonite is a great stone to heal old hurts of the heart.  It clears, activates, stimulates and grounds energy in the heart chakra.

Aventurine encourages compassion and empathy.  A good stone for protecting the heart chakra as one is learning to live from the heart.

Green tourmaline clears and opens the heart chakra as it allows one to be more compassionate and patient.

Kunzite connects you to universal love and activates the heart chakra will aligning it with the throat and third eye.  This allows one to speak from the heart about what they see.

Please visit the Crystal Life Technology library for more information on the heart chakra.

Staff Speak-Solar Plexus Chakra

Self confidence, joy, and discernment are all positive qualities of a healthy solar plexus chakra.  Also known as the third chakra, this energy center stretches from below the downward “V” in the breastbone to two inches below the navel.  The digestive organs are mainly located in this area of the body and along with this how well we are able to digest our life is sensed in the solar plexus.

An unbalanced third chakra can result in depression, being judgemental, overly intellectual or a lack of confidence.  Citrine assists in lifting the spirits and increasing confidence.  Yellow Jasper is a must for balancing this chakra as it helps sooth digestion and grounds confidence into the here and now.  Malachite aids in balancing digestion in both the physical and the emotional planes. Peridot works on digestion on all levels and helps release anger and jealousy that may be stored in the solar plexus.  Yellow Calcite adds joy to daily tasks.

There are numerous ways to add stones into your daily life. A tumbled stone may be taped to the solar plexus area with medical tape.  Elixirs can be made and used daily to balance the solar plexus area(please note that a malachite elixir can only be made indirectly).   A visualization meditation while holding on of the above stones is also a very beneficial way to work with the stone.  Please visit the Crystal Life Technology library for additional information on the solar plexus chakra.

Staff Speak- Sacral Chakra

The second chakra, also known as the sacral chakra, is located in the area between the naval and approximately 2″ above the pubic bone.  This is the energy center where creativity resides enabling us to go with the flow.  It is also where our emotions about inter-relations with our personal world (friends, associates, lovers) resides.

Some stones that assist with this chakra are orange coral, chrysoprase, orange agate and carnelian just to name a few.  “A stone of the sea,” orange coral is good for working on relations with others.  Chrysoprase helps to release any stored up feelings in the second chakra.  Orange Agate helps you to go with the flow of life.  Moonstone helps to soothe and understand the emotions that we have stored in the second chakra.  Carnelian helps stimulate creativity.

There are many ways to utilize these stones for the second chakra.  Get two of the same kind and put one in each of your pant pockets where they can be near your sacral chakra.  You can wear one as a pendant to have the energy in your field throughout the day.

For more information on the sacral chakra, check out the library on the Crystal Life Technology website.

Staff Speak-Root Chakra

Located at the tip of the tail bone, the root chakra is about survival, stability, and security. When the root chakra is functioning properly, one feels vibrant, secure and courageous.   If you have been told, “you need to be more grounded,” the first chakra you would look at and work with is your root chakra.  There are many stones that assist with opening, balancing, and clearing the root chakra.  The key is to find which stone works for you on an individual basis.

Black tourmaline helps to clear the root chakra of old energetic and emotional debris, clearing the way for new energy to flow through.

Banded Agate assists one in feeling secure and assists in releasing repressed emotions.

Boji stones come in a male/female pair, helping to balance the body.  They gently but firmly grounds the spiritual body into the physical body.

Dalmatian Jasper is another option when working with the root chakra.  It can help to open the base and earth chakras while grounding and centering the body.

Aragonite assists in stabilizing and centering within the physical body.  It is a very calming stone.

Specularite which can also be known as specular hematite helps one manifest their unique spirit on earth.

Staff Speak – Multiple Paths to the Same Destination

Lately many people have major decisions to make that will impact their future. They have uncertainty as to whether what they really want will be the most beneficial for their overall well-being.  Some are feeling impatient as they feel there is only one way to reach their goal.

I find there is always more than one way to reach a goal. There is the perceived “only” way to go about it.  Then there is the “follow what feels right to your heart” path.  Though that path may not always guarantee the objective, what feels right to the heart will lead you in the right direction.

A good way to see how your different choices may affect you, is to work with a crystal or  fossil that helps you travel ahead in meditation and see how it might like look. Orthocerous fossil works well for this by holding it in your hand and connecting it with your heart chakra and your throat chakra.  Then travel along the triangle the connecting energy created and see how the decision may affect your future.

Staff Speak – Self Acceptance

Each and everyone of us has many aspects of ourselves.  Our society and backgrounds have taught us that some are “good” and some “bad.”  In labeling different aspects of ourselves such as a fleeting thought or behavior that is different from the norm as “bad,” we start to have conflict within ourself.  This conflict comes from the inner-self needing to do something, but the aspect of ourself that may be concerned with what society deems “right” or “wrong,” starts to judge the behavior and may start feeling bad for acting that way.  A example of this would be a person who grows up in a college educated family.  The dad is a Doctor, the mother a lawyer and older siblings finishing grad school.  In this family structure it is frowned upon to pursue a career in Music.

Self acceptance is key to minimizing the inner conflicts.  An affirmation such as ” I love and accept myself as I am,” can be said daily to help manifest this into your life.  There are stones that help with self acceptance as well. You can hold the stone while saying the affirmation out loud.  Then keep the stone in your pocket as a reminder of your self acceptance throughout the day.  Agate gently helps with self acceptance.  Pink Peruvian Opal brings in unconditional love and acceptance.  Chrysoprase release judgementalism while stimulating acceptance.  Rhyolite assists with self-respect and acceptance of your true self.  Sodalite helps you be true to who you are.
