ISIC – Reiki for You and Your Family

Reiki is a multi-faceted energy modality that works well in many areas of your life and home. The benefits of Reiki are many, helping on the physical, spiritual, emotional and mental levels. More specifically, it helps with relaxation, increasing energy, pain relief and clarity. Reiki can be given to people of all ages, it can be used in your environment and to help your pets.

reikiChildren are intuitively drawn to Reiki, and it is a valuable skill for them to learn as it empowers them to help themselves and others. Whether they give it to themselves or receive it from a practitioner, it can help them with the following and more: relax before exams or tryouts, help alleviate the symptoms of colds and flu, and  calm hyperactive children.

Reiki assists in helping your parents as it helps them with life transitions such as divorce, retirement, or death of a spouse. It does so by bringing in feelings of peace and centered-ness. A good tool to help through illness, it speeds up the healing process and reduces aches and pain. Reiki works well in conjunction with conventional and other alternative healing methods.

Families include the animals who live with you. Reiki can be given to help calm them down or alternately energize the elderly animals. You can Reiki their food to increase the nutrients in what they eat. Reiki can provide pain relief to your pets.

Reiki can be used to energize the water and food you eat. It can be used to protect your home, and you can clear your home of negativity with it. Plants benefit from the energies of Reiki and become more healthy and lush.

Easy to learn and to incorporate into your daily routine, it is like an all-in-one tool for your health toolbox. Reiki can help heal your life and enhance your family’s well being.

ISIC – The Present Moment

“Life is a preparation for the future; and the best preparation for the future is to live as if there were none.”
Albert Einstein

In our society we are always thinking about and planning for the future. We go through the day thinking about spending time with a friend at the end of the week, being able to afford the bills, or wondering if we will be able to get a job when we graduate. Not only do we worry about the future, but we tend to relive and mull-over the past. Wondering how our life could be different if we just did this or said that. We spend a fraction of our time fully engaged in the moment.

How would life be different if one were to be fully engaged and present from moment to moment?  Would it be happier, more rewarding, or less stress-filled?  Would one’s memory be better, and possibly cognition or retention of reading?  Is it possible that there would be less accidents and road rage?

Some people have lately expressed concern over stepping back a bit and learning how to fully listen to others. Others have had a hard time concentrating on the task at hand.  Still yet others are concerned about their loved one’s inability to be fully present in the relationship or family. These are all different situations in which one would like to be present. Let’s start be defining what it means, feels like, and looks like to be in the present moment.

Learning to be in the present means being fully in your body, full in the moment and fully there, wherever that may be. It is having your awareness on your surroundings and those you are interacting with. It also means being in touch with your feelings as they arise.  It is like living every moment like it is the only moment right now!

Suggestions on how to be present:

  • Focus on your breath
  • Focus on your heartbeat
  • Use crystals
  • Ask a couple key questions
  • Learn from children and animals

Putting attention on one’s breathing can help focus you on the present moment.  As you breathe in and out, feel the air and notice how it travels through your body. Find a style of breathing or a breathing technique that works best for you and incorporate that into your day. Ocean Jasper is a stone that helps one when practicing certain types of breathing.  It can be carried in the pocket or worn as a pendant.

Focusing on one’s heartbeat is another helpful way to stay in the present moment. Focusing on that central spot in your energy system helps to focus and distribute energy evenly. Hearing the beat of a heart is calming relaxing and centering. Rhodochrosite is a stone for the heart chakra and encourages spontaneous expression of feelings.  Expressing and releasing feelings helps one to live in the moment and stay centered in the heart.

If just getting focused is hard to do, use a piece of tiger’s eye which is helpful in focusing and pulling together scattered energy. Make it a red tiger’s eye so it can help you stay motivated to be present!

To help bring one’s self back into the present moment, there are some many questions to consider asking:

  • What am I being told today?
  • What am I aware of right now?
  • What is the next step for me in this moment?

These questions help bring one back into the present moment and bring awareness of the present activities. No need to come up with long answers. Asking the right questions help to focus thoughts in the here and now.

Children and animals are perfect examples of being in the moment.  Have you ever watched a young child so wrapped in their play that they did no notice anyone else in the room?  They get so engrossed in what it is they are doing, nothing else at that moment matters. The expression, “like a dog with a bone” also illustrates being in the moment.  That dog wants to get that bone and gnaw on it to its heart’s content. The common denominator is that both children and animals do what they love to do and they wholeheartedly immerse themselves in it. Find what you love to do and get lost in it. “I can’t do that,” you might be saying right now. “I’ve got bills to pay.” There are many reasons to not be doing something that you love. I am suggesting that you figure out what you do love and start out by scheduling an hour a day to do that and only that. Try it for a month and observe the changes. Ruby can be worn to encourage you to make time to do what you love.

Taking small steps on a consistent basis to live in the moment will benefit you in a multitude of ways. The preceding information touched on a handful of tips to accomplish this.  It is a journey to always be present so remember to always give yourself grace during the process. Try many different techniques to see what works best for you. Be aware that what worked last year, may be different than what will work today.

ISIC – Inspiring Others by Self Change

There has been a trend in the last week of women wanting stones to help change their significant other or to help the relationship change.  It has gotten me to thinking and remembering what I have learned in my years and have observed with both men and women. One can only change one’s self.  It has been put many ways by many great teachers and even sung on the MC Yogi Elephant Power CD: “be the change you wish to see in the world….just like Gandhi”.  This is easier said than done.  Especially when one has put some time and effort already in “improving themselves” and changing how they interact in the relationship.  If there are still important areas in a relationship that are unsatisfactory, one could possibly be viewing the situation with judgment or feelings of resentment or entitlement.  It takes time to meditate on what one as an individual can do to be happier and more loving.  In meditation the answers will be given, that if acted upon, will help the relationship, or if needed, help one realize that the best thing for both individuals is to let the relationship go in a loving manner.

light-shiningThere are crystals that help one become more loving.  These crystals include rose quartz, rhodochrosite, and cobalto calcite.  There are also stones that help one to forgive, most importantly, themselves and others.  Mangano calcite and rhodonite are excellent for that.  Rhodonite is also very good for healing a broken heart.  There are stones to help one become less judgmental.  Bronzite and magnesite are very good for this.  Mica helps one to see how others see them, which is always helpful in a relationship where there is conflict as it helps one see how the other is viewing them.  That can be an eye opening experience with the realization of the other person’s point of view.  People closest to us, who we have a problem with, are our best teachers.  They are most likely mirroring a quality in ourself that we do not like.  Then the assignment is to accept those not so pleasant parts of one’s self.  In doing that, one naturally starts accepting others as they are.  When everyone feels loved and accepted, the whole energy of the relationship changes.

Moral of the story:  one can only change within.  It takes some introspection, facing the truth, and taking forward action. Those three things combined with a willingness to accept change helps to create a happy life. When the people in our lives observe us changing and growing and becoming happy, they are naturally inspired to make changes to their own life.

ISIC – Finding Peace Within

In this time of change and turmoil, it is important to find peace within ourselves. We need to find and to go this place that is always with us no matter where we are. This place is located deep within our own heart. It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and happenings. Sometimes this gets us off-center, making it harder to help those who come to us in need.

peace in chaosAt first it may be difficult for some to find and stay in this peaceful heart-centered space. So to begin with, it is suggested to spend time right when you wake up, training yourself to move from your head and down into you heart. Once at your heart, stay there and feel if there are any issues or emotions that may need to be addressed: things that might need to be cleared in order to delve deeper and find the still peaceful centered-ness.

Take as much time as you need to clear that stuff up in a way that feels right to you. You might continue your waking up exercise with these suggestions: writing it down, energetically clearing it out and sending those feelings to source (because it’s just energy any way), or imagining yourself taking a squeegee and literally clearing the windows of your heart. It does not matter how it is done. Keep in mind that the sooner you are able to clear any uncomfortable feelings from the heart, the sooner you have that mobile place of peace to go to any time you want, no matter where you are!

Centering is now more important than ever. Learning how to be at peace within one’s self will help perpetuate that into the environment. A very helpful tool when first beginning to do this is a stone kept in the pocket. Amazonite is a great one for the job as one of its main functions is to help you find inner peace through outer chaos. Integrate the use of the stone by holding it during your morning training of going into your heart. After a while, just by holding it, you will be able to connect with your heart center quickly. Take time today to find that quiet peaceful place.

Staff Speak – Family Meditation

Have you ever thought of introducing meditation to your children?  Children are natural meditators and have an easier time at it than adults  They are able to meditate amongst noise and, if distracted, can get back into it. When given the instruction, time, and space, their expansive imaginations take off, painting vivid imagery, hearing sounds, and getting in touch with their feelings.  Meditating as a family can increase harmony, decrease stress, and strengthen the family bond.

Children as young as five years old can be introduced to meditation and are able to practice meditation on a daily basis. Gently encourage children of any age to meditate, by talking about it, by making it a special time during the day, and by making it fun. For younger children, there are books about meditation that can be read at story time. Peaceful Piggy Meditation by Kerry Lea MacLean is one such book. With older children, talk openly about your meditation experiences and how they make you feel, etc.  Invite your child or children to meditate with you.  A good time for this would be before bedtime, making it part of the routine, or in the morning before heading out the door. Set aside not more than 20 minutes, taking ten minutes for the actual meditation and leaving ten minutes for discussion or time to draw or write about their experiences.

When introducing meditation to your children, it is important to have it defined  for you.  Encourage your children to explore and come up with their own definition for themselves and then share yours, being careful to keep the concept open. Explain that there are many ways to meditate and many positions you can mediate from: sitting, lying down, back against the wall, etc. The bottom line is to be comfortable. Allow for exploration of  the different positions as what works best for one person may not work for the others.  Another key factor, especially for younger children, is to allow for them to quietly move about during meditation time.  Children respond well to guided meditation that allow them to experience the meditation with their senses whether that is sight, sound, feelings, knowing, or touching.  A useful book that has meditations geared toward children but very useful for adults too is Sensation Meditation for Children by Sarah Wood Vallely.

You may also make up your own guided meditations.  Creating special meditations that include the interests of the family members makes it interesting and fun.  If the children in the family are older, take turns guiding the meditations so that everyone gets a chance to experience the time from different perspectives.  This will keep everyone involved in the group process.

Best wishes for your family practice!

Staff Speak- Crown Chakra Stones

Connection to spirit, oneness with god, and illumination are all aspects of the crown chakra.  Also known as the seventh chakra, it is located in the center of the top of the head.  A clear and balanced crown chakra allows one to be in constant connection with universal energy.  The following are stones to help clear, balance, and awaken this chakra:

White Onyx: Helps you to be in full mastery of your own energy, to discern and align with universal energies.

White Agate:  Grounds spiritual energy

Apophylite:  a powerful vibrational transmitter of energy.  Creates a conscious connection between physical and spiritual realms.

Clear Quartz:  balances, clears, and energizes this chakra.

Staff Speak -Throat Chakra Stones

The throat chakra helps enhance how we express ourselves in this world.  This chakra is about creative expression, and voicing one’s truth.  It is a portal to divine guidance and expression.  Located above the hollow at the base of the neck and extending up to the larynx, it’s color ranges from light aquamarine to dark blue.  The thyroid, throat, ears, and mouth are body parts that are linked to the throat chakra.

Communication is the key to this chakra.  Communication is not only about talking, it is also about listening and being able to fully hear others, whether they are the people in your life or your guides. The following are stones that will help in these various ways:

Angelite is a stone that can assist in making conscious connection with your angels and guides.

Blue Kyanite encourages you to speak your truth and assists in opening the throat chakra.  It also helps to connect to your guides.

Lapis Lazuli helps self expression without holding back.  It assists in releasing repressed anger that may be causing communication difficulty allowing for free expression of inner turth in a compassionate way.

Amazonite is useful in knowing your truth and provides the courage to both speaking and living it.

For more information on the throat chakra, including additional stones, please visit the Crystal Life library page.

Staff Speak – Heart Chakra

Love, compassion, forgiveness are all qualities found in the heart chakra. Located in the center of the chest, this chakra connects the lower physical chakras with the upper spiritual chakras.  In a balanced chakra system, the heart chakra accepts the purely spiritual information of the upper chakras and translates it into the language of the lower three chakras.  This translation is also true from the lower chakras to the upper chakras.  Given this important role, it is vital to have a healthy, balanced, and clear heart chakra.

We are taught that it is important to love and forgive others since childhood, and that is true.  However, it is most necessary to love all parts of one’s self to truly be able to love another. From that place of love for the self, the love is then able to spread to others.  The following is a list of stones to help with self love, forgiveness, and compassion:

Rose quartz is a stone that can help in all the different areas of the heart chakra.  Wear a rose pendant right over your heart charka to help balance and clear it.

Rhodonite is a great stone to heal old hurts of the heart.  It clears, activates, stimulates and grounds energy in the heart chakra.

Aventurine encourages compassion and empathy.  A good stone for protecting the heart chakra as one is learning to live from the heart.

Green tourmaline clears and opens the heart chakra as it allows one to be more compassionate and patient.

Kunzite connects you to universal love and activates the heart chakra will aligning it with the throat and third eye.  This allows one to speak from the heart about what they see.

Please visit the Crystal Life Technology library for more information on the heart chakra.
